You're right that the grinder is vital, but a £200 grinder is quite good and probably sufficient for someone without much experience. A pretty good 15-18 step conical burr grinder can be had for £150 from amazon (e.g. smile.amazon.co.uk/Deva-Curl-Conical-Grinder-Stainless/dp/…)
